This is a report released to the media from the Rocky Mountain House (RMH) RCMP giving a brief description of various crimes and call-ins, both solved and unsolved throughout the community between the dates of August 27- September 2.
Not all crimes reported are listed in this report.
August 27
7:51 a.m. – A mechanical shop was reported vandalized overnight in the RMH industrial area.
10:02 a.m.. – Theft of a white 2008 FORD F250 SuperDuty pickup from a residence in Horburg.
2:08 p.m. – Break & Enter reported on Pine Martin Drive, Clearwater County. A cabin & garage were broken into and two quads and a TV were stolen: 2010 green POLARIS Sportsman X2 & 2011 black POLARIS Sportsman XP850.
11:59 p.m. – Call of an assault with a weapon at a RMH bar. Police arrested both individuals involved in the altercation. Charges are pending against one of the adult males.
August 29
8:26 a.m. – Electrical tools stolen from a vehicle overnight while parked at a RMH residence.
10:07 a.m. – 911 call of a single vehicle rollover on the O’Chiese First Nations Reserve. Police attended and arrested the driver who “Failed” the alcohol screening device. Provincial sanctions were issued along with violation tickets for “No Insurance & No registration,” plus for “Driving while having a suspended driver’s licence.”
11:05 a.m. – Theft of a black 2008 DODGE Nitro from a residence on the O’Chiese First Nations Reserve.
12:25 p.m. – Complaint of an assault which occurred at a residence in Clearwater County. Under investigation.
6:27 p.m. – Police stopped an unregistered pickup truck in RMH and arrested the driver on an outstanding warrant from Breton & also for breaching previous release conditions after it was determined he was in possession of various weapons. Charges are pending.
10:00 p.m. – The First Nation & RMH Crime Reduction units attended a residence on the Sunchild First Nations Reserve to arrest an adult male who was wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for a parole violation. Upon officers arrival the individual fled out the back door but was apprehended in the woods a short time later. He gave a false name to police and was in possession of a homemade prohibited firearm and methamphetamine. A further 15 counts of weapons, drug and identity fraud charges have been laid against 28-year-old Blaine William REDCALF. He was remanded into custody after a JIR Hearing and will appear in court later in the week.
August 30
2:02 a.m. – RMH & the First Nation Crime Reduction Units attempted to stop a vehicle on Highway 11 after one of the passengers was recognized as having numerous outstanding arrest warrants including armed robbery and aggravated assault. However, the vehicle fled at a high rate of speed, failing to stop at stop signs and driving into oncoming traffic in an attempt to deter police. At times the vehicle reached speeds of 170 km/h. On Secondary Hwy 598, a tire deflation device was utilized which deflated all four tires. The driver and three passengers were subsequently arrested. A homemade firearm was located along with other weapons. Methamphetamine and cocaine were also seized.
The driver, Shaun Christopher Lagrelle, 31, has been charged with 10 weapons, drug, and driving offences. After a Judicial Interim Release Order, he was released on a “$3,000 Promise to Pay” Release Order and is required to make a court appearance on a future date.
One of the passengers, Kyle Thomas Whitehorse, 23, has been charged with weapons, drug, and breach (previous conditions) offences. He had been released on two previous Release Orders as a result of numerous charges stemming from a number of incidents over the past year. Two conditions of his previous release were that he not possess weapons or controlled drugs. He has been charged with a further 15 offences and is remanded into custody after a JIR Hearing.
No charges have been laid on the other two female passengers.
10:49 a.m. – Report of an Internet scam after the victim responded to an add on Facebook. The victim received multiple $2,000 cheques and in return sent bitcoin currency to the fraudster. Later it was learned that the cheques were false and money had been taken out of the bank account. Under investigation.
11:20 a.m. – Break & Enter reported to the Rocky Native Friendship Center overnight. Cash and laptops were stolen. Under investigation.
August 31
10:53 a.m. – Break & Enter reported to a cabin located at the RMH museum.
10:57 a.m. – Report of a Break & Enter to a cottage on a property in Nordegg. Under investigation.
11:23 a.m. – Report of a white HAULMARK utility trailer stolen from an Energy company in Clearwater County.
7:03 p.m. – Call from a RMH Hotel advising of a number of individuals who rented a room with fake ID & credit card. Police attended and arrested the four occupants, one of whom was on previous release conditions to remain in the province of BC. Charges are pending on this adult female individual.
September 1
1:05 a.m. – Report of B&E to a residence on the O’Chiese First Nations Reserve. Under investigation.
5:00 p.m. – Assault reported on the O’Chiese First Nations Reserve. Warrant issued for the suspect.
5:46 p.m. – B&E to a residence on the O’Chiese First Nations Reserve. Medication and a TV were reported stolen.
September 2
12:47 a.m. – While on patrol, police came across an intoxicated male stumbling down the middle of 52 Ave in RMH, yelling at houses. Police arrested the individual who stated it was his birthday. Birthday boy was released after sobering up.
5:08 a.m. – Attempted theft of a pickup truck from the Nordegg Hotel. The suspect ripped the door handle off and upon seeing the complainant, fled in a flatbed truck.
