Speed limit confusion in a Rocky Mountain House neighbourhood is raising concerns amongst members of council.
During council’s regular meeting Tuesday, Councillor Len Phillips noted two different speed signs on the new 54 Street road extension leading into the community of Creekside, saying he found it confusing as to what speed it was supposed to be.
“At one end of the road it’s 40 km/h, and on the other side, it’s 50 km/h,” said Phillips.
CAO Dean Krause explained, there is a transition where the train tracks split the road, that the speed limit changes.
“Right now Creekside is the only residential area that is 40 km/h and we had to do a transition somewhere,” said Krause.
Creekside was used as a trial project early last year for the Town to consider whether or not to make speeds 30 km/h or 40 km/h in Rocky’s residential areas.
Currently, in less than two kilometres, 54 Street changes speed limits three times, beginning at 30 km/h north of Pioneer School, changing to 50 km/h south of that, and then changing once again to 40 km/h after crossing the tracks on the new extension.
Mayor Tammy Burke said making it a consistent speed limit could be worth bringing back to council at a later date, once the new council is in place following the Oct. 18 municipal election.
