The Rocky Mountain House RCMP are hosting a community engagement meeting next week to discuss policing in the county.
During this meeting locals will have the opportunity to voice their comments and concerns about policing issues in the areas of Rocky Mountain House, Caroline, Leslieville, Nordegg, O’Chiese First Nation, Sunchild First Nation, Big Horn First Nation and Clearwater County.
The meeting will be held in the Subway Room at the Rocky Recreational Centre on June 28. There will be two sessions to accommodate as many residents as possible, one at 2:00 p.m. and one at 7:00 p.m. Rocky RCMP encourage residents to attend.
Staff Sergeant Carl Dinsdale explained, “The RCMP in Alberta recognizes that it is vitally important for Albertans to have a voice in the policing services they receive from the various RCMP Detachments and Units across Alberta. While I meet on a regular basis with elected community leaders and police advisory committees, there is often a gap in the information that is available to the citizens that are not part of these mechanisms, and they deserve to have an opportunity to engage directly with the police as well.”
Dinsdale added, “Community-based policing is at the heart of the RCMP in Alberta and that means the entire community should be afforded the opportunity for input and information directly from the police. It is my hope that any residents that are curious about what the Rocky Mountain House Detachment operations, priorities and plans are, or that have any comments, questions or concerns will take advantage of these Town Hall events and attend the event, Town or County, that will best address the concerns on where they live.”
“The Rocky Mountain House Detachment looks forward to this type of in-person engagement, especially on the heels of 2 years of not being able to do so due to the COVID 19 pandemic and public health concerns. The feedback we receive from those who attend will help us ensure we are directing our operations in a way that best meets the needs of the citizens we proudly serve”, noted Dinsdale.
While hosted by the Rocky RCMP, there will be representation from the Town of Rocky Mountain House Community Peace Officers as well.
The town hall will incorporate a short presentation on the current state of policing and crime in Rocky Mountain House, followed by a question and answer period.
