Clearwater County council has elected a new Reeve and Deputy Reeve.
On Oct. 24, at their Organizational Meeting, council authorized the use of secret ballots to appoint a new Reeve.
During the meeting the CAO called nominations and two council members were nominated to fill the Reeve position.
Councillor Neil Radcliffe nominated Daryl Lougheed who served as Reeve the previous two years. Meanwhile Councillor Sydney Graham nominated, councillor Michelle Swanson.
After council members voted using the secret ballots Michelle Swanson was nominated as Reeve.
Swanson said, “I just want to thank this council for giving me the honour to serve you over this next year. I also want to thank councillor Lougheed. Your leadership has been integral over the last two years.”
Swanson added, she looks forward to working with council and looks forward to continue working on strategic planning over the next year.
Meanwhile, council also nominated for Deputy Reeve.
Nominations for Deputy Reeve saw councillor Darly Lougheed nominate Gennifer Mehlhaff. Councillor Jordon Northcott would then elect the rest of council for the position of Deputy Reeve.
After nominations, Clearwater council would then go to a secret ballot to determine Deputy Reeve.
After votes were counted, council appointed Gennifer Mehlhaff, who served as Deputy Reeve the previous year.
