The Central Alberta Antique and Model Club is set to host its first community yard sale fundraiser at the antique grounds just east of Leslieville on May 24-25.
Penny Seiling, who has been a Leslieville Antique Club member since 2014, says the fundraiser is for general upkeep of the grounds so the organization can continue to hold events, such as the popular Leslieville Antique Days on August long weekend.
“Funds are going to things like repairing buildings or boardwalks,” says Seiling. “The funds are going into club coffers to put new things together and be responsible for everything that’s there.”
Seiling adds that upkeep includes the popular miniature steam train that makes an appearance every summer.
Held annually on August long weekend, Seiling says plans are well underway for the 2024 event, which will include camping, vendors, the popular tractor pull, tours of the old schoolhouse and church, and of course, food.
“The Cinnamon Shack women are heroes, because they are working in a little log cabin with wood burning stoves,” explains Seiling. “They make cinnamon buns all day for the two days of the event. It sells out regularly”
People are invited to set up their tables inside the Back to Our Roots building on the south end of the property, say organizers.
Rental is $15 for one day or $25 for two days. Seiling says vendors can keep profits from sales during the event.
The sale goes May 24 from 12:00 p.m. to 5 p.m. and May 25 from 10:00 a.m. to 4 p.m.
