The Rocky Mountain House and Area Health Services Foundation says it’s pleased to once again receive a semi-annual donation of $10,000 from Next to New thrift store.
Treasurer for the Rocky Health Foundation, Dale Shippelt says, the Next To You donation is the single largest regular donation the organization receives, and that the thrift store has been making it for several years.
“Next To New has been very generous in looking after the Health Foundation by giving them a generous donation of $10,000,” says Shippelt. “They’ve done it several times now, which we very much appreciate.”
Officials with Rocky Health Services say, for years, it has been fundraising for needs at the Rocky Mountain House Health Centre, including a recent $750,000 contribution for equipment for the hospital’s newly opened operating room.
But now, Shippelt says there’s a new fundraising goal.
“Since then, it’s been identified that there’s new equipment that’s needed,” says Shippelt. “We’re fundraising to achieve another $250,000 to get the additional pieces of equipment we need for the OR. All of this will help people in our community and keep services local”
Shippelt adds fundraising goals are on track, especially with an overwhelming response during the recent Tim Horton’s Smile Cookie week, to which the Rocky Health Foundation was benefactor. Shipplet says that while no final dollar numbers have been announced, it’s clear there were a lot of cookies sold.
“The amount of cookies sold was just over 16,000 in Rocky Mountain House,” says Shippelt. “Almost a shocking number for a community our size.”
Shippelt adds he and the organization are overwhelmed by the community’s generosity and its desire to keep health care local.
