Rocky Mountain House residents can beat the heat this summer at the Rocky Spray Park, and make an afternoon of it as the site’s new washroom facilities are officially open.
Town of Rocky Mountain House officials said the washrooms were originally slated for a May Long Weekend opening, but weather, plumbing work, and contractor delays pushed the opening date back.
Officials say the spray park opened to the community on June 24, 2021.
Construction on the $310,000 bathroom facility project began in 2023, a cost shared equally between the Town of Rocky Mountain House and Clearwater County.
Laura Button, communications coordinator with the Town of Rocky Mountain House says that while the washrooms are open to the public, there’s still some work to be done, such as landscaping and added benches in the change rooms.
Thanks to the full-service washroom facility, the outhouse that was previously on site has been removed, says Button.
Officials add, there will be efforts to keep the facility in good repair, such as inspection and cleaning two to four times per day and locked doors after hours.
The Rocky Spray Park will be open between 10 a.m. and 9 p.m. daily.
The spray park is located just south of the Lou Soppit Community Centre (5317 48 St.).
