Western Wheels Auto Club is kicking off a busy summer season including its big July snow ‘n shine, weekly Wednesday meet and greets, as well as taking the show on the road to many events around central Alberta.
First established in Rocky Mountain House more than 40 years ago, the Western Wheels Auto Club has been a fixture at parades, community events, as well as the south Rocky Mountain House Tim Hortons location.
Andy Smith, president of the Western Wheels Auto Club says on a good night, around 15-20 vehicles show up to the weekly gathering, often featuring a diverse array of cool rides.
“They don’t have to be vintage cars, so anyone can come with their newer models, it’s wide open to everyone,” says Smith. “You’d be surprised how many cars come out of the woodwork in Rocky Mountain House you don’t know are there.”
Smith adds the word ‘vintage’ was taken out of the club’s official name some time ago to welcome more types of vehicles.
The weekly meet and greets happen every Wednesday throughout the summer at the south Tim Hortons (4403 41, Ave) from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Possibly the high point of the summer is the club’s main Hooked on Classics Car Show on July 27 which sees the club take over several blocks of main street.
The event sees around 130 cars displayed in the heart of town from car clubs and enthusiasts from as far away as Winnipeg, says Smith.
Smith adds the summer show ‘n shine will also feature vendors, prizes, door prizes, silent auction, as well as the Man Van, where men can get screened for prostate cancer and other ailments free of charge.
The club will also be attending the inaugural Nordegg Days show ‘n shine on Aug. 31 starting at 10:30 a.m. as well as a late-summer Leslieville show ‘n shine.
