Two local 4-H clubs have joined forces to make one generous donation to the Rocky Health Foundation.
Members of Rocky North 4-H Multi-Club and Rocky South 4-H Beef Club stopped by the Rocky Mountain House Health Centre to drop off a donation of $2,345.54.
Owen Stewart, assistant leader with the Rocky South 4-H Beef Club says the choice to support the Rocky Health Foundation was intentional.
“The Rocky community at large is very supportive to our youth and other organizations,” says Stewart. “We decided we should give a little back. We picked the Rocky Health Foundation because of it’s local proximity as well as for the amount of good it can do for people.”
The money came from a percentage of profits from the two club’s recent beef raffle, says Stewart.
Rocky Health Foundation treasurer, Dale Shippelt says the donation was completely out of the blue, as the clubs surprised the organization with the generous donation.
Stewart says he too saw a surprised reaction from the folks at the Foundation.
“Right from the secretary right up to the board members who were there, they were thrilled,” says Stewart. “They gave us a tour of the new operating facility. It’s fantastic what they’re doing, and we’re proud to donate to them.”
Shippelt adds, following a successful fundraising effort to help get the operating room online at the Rocky Mountain House Health Care Centre, fundraising within the organization continues to generate more dollars for additional needs that have been identified at the hospital.

According to the organization’s website, the 4-H motto is ‘Learn To Do By Doing’. The organization says it gives urban and rural youth and adults such as co-operation, leadership, critical thinking, decision making, organization, public speaking, and community service.
The clubs are much more than raising beef, says Stewart, as youth learn skills such as baking, sewing and canine training, leadership and decision-making skills as the clubs elects its own members, and community service such as putting up Christmas lights every year at Westview Lodge.
