Clearwater County Council members are joining their neighbors at the Town of Rocky Mountain House in forwarding a letter to the premier asking the Province to come up with a solution to fix emergency department (ED) coverage issues at the Rocky Mountain House Health Centre.
The ED, which was closed again overnight starting July 8 at 10 p.m., has been seeing several recurring overnight closures during spring 2024- a situation Rocky Mountain House Town Councillor Len Phillips has called “unacceptable”.

Published before the July 8 closure, the letter asserts the ED has seen seven overnight closures so far in 2024, in contrast there were eight in the entire span of 2023, and only one in 2022.
Deputy Reeve Genny Mehlhaff questioned the number of closures so far in 2024, as she felt it has been higher than seven.
Councillor Bryan Cermak inquired whether there was a way to have the province respond with steps its taking to address the concerns.
During the July 9 meeting, Clearwater Council voted unanimously to send the letter to Premier Danielle Smith, as well as Health Minister Adriana LaGrange and MLA Jason Nixon.
