Officials with Clearwater County say it is aware of and monitoring several wildfires in the western part of the county, all of which are in the Provincial Forest Protection Area.
While smoke can be seen from many places within the forest area, officials say there is no immediate threat to any communities at this time
Officials say it is monitoring three wildfires within the county:
𝐑𝐖𝐅-𝟎𝟔𝟐 remains classified as being held. This wildfire is currently 13 kilometers northwest of the Crescent Falls Provincial Recreation Area and 30 km west of Nordegg. Due to the wildfire, the Wapiabi Public Recreation Area trail is currently closed.
𝐑𝐖𝐅-𝟎𝟔𝟑 remains classified as 𝐛𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐝. This wildfire is 50 km west of Nordegg.
The location of 𝐑𝐖𝐅-𝟎𝟔𝟐 and 𝐑𝐖𝐅-𝟎𝟔3 is within the forest management plan, officials say, which identifies areas that will benefit from wildfires for forest rejuvenation. Given the location, the plan for these wildfires is to manage, continuously assess and monitor their progress and firefighters will action if required.
𝐑𝐖𝐅-𝟎𝟔𝟒 remains classified as out of control. This wildfire is northwest of the Ram Falls Provincial Park and approximately 30 km southwest of Nordegg. Officials say 34 firefighters are on the scene with support from heavy equipment to establish a dozer guard around the fire.
Due to the heavy smoke, officials say air operations will return when possible and effective.
