Officials with STARS air ambulance say it was dispatched to the region twice over the July 26-28 weekend.
STARS first attended a scene the afternoon of July 26 near Nordegg involving a child with injuries sustained from a quad accident. Upon arrival after 4:22 p.m., the patient was transported to Stollery Children’s Hospital in Edmonton.
RCMP officials confirm it received a report of an ATV rollover where a 12-year-old victim was being transported by STARS to hospital.
RCMP say it determined that a 9-year-old was driving when they hit a rut at low speeds on the ATV went on its side. The 12-year-old fell off and received serious injuries.
An adult supervisor is charged with:
Section 2(2)(a) of the Off-highway
Vehicle Regulation pursuant to the Traffic Safety Act – Person less than 14 years drive OHV on public property without supervision by person occupying passenger seat of OHV or in or on MV travelling in close proximity to OHV.
Section 2(3) of the Off-highway
Vehicle Regulation pursuant to the Traffic Safety Act – Permit person less than 14 years to drive OHV unauthorized in public place.
Later in the weekend, STARS was dispatched to a scene call emergency near Sundre just after 11:30 p.m. on July 28.
Officials say a male in his 20s was involved in a single vehicle incident and was transported to Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary.
Sundre RCMP officials confirm it received a report of a motor vehicle collision on Hwy. 584 at the intersection of Range Rd. 61.
An investigation revealed that a motor vehicle was operating with several people in the box.
Officials say the vehicle went around a corner when one of the passengers riding in the box, a 28-year-old male resident of Sundre, was ejected from the box and received significant injuries.
The victim was taken to hospital by STARS in serious life threatening condition, say officials.
The driver of the truck, a 27-year-old female Medicine Hat resident, was later located, say officials, and given provincial sanctions for impaired driving.
