World Professional Chuckwagon Association (Billy Melville) —
It was a cool rainy Wednesday night as night two of the Battle of the Rockies was run on a heavy racetrack. Despite some slower times, it was an entertaining night of chuckwagon races. When the night wrapped up, It was Layne Flad who capped off the night with the top run after posting a 1:21.71. It’s the first time Layne Flad has won first place on a night since joining the WPCA full time four years ago.
Coming off barrel 1 in heat number 3, Flad had the fast time of the night by 19 one-hundredths of a second over Chanse Vigen. Preston Faithful grabbed third, Chance Thomson was fourth with Mitch Sutherland filling out the top five on the evening.
Chanse Vigen and his Terrafirma Resources outfit has now jumped to the top of the overall aggregate standings with a two-run total time of 2:39.77. That puts him just 1.53 seconds in front of Todd Baptiste who has now moved up into second place overall. Day money winner Layne Flad sits 3rd overall, while Kris Molle and Mitch Sutherland are currently splitting fourth and fifth overall.
The driver posting the best 4-day aggregate time after Sunday’s run will take home the 2024 Battle of the Rockies Championship, and the top twelve in the World Standings after the completion of the Battle of the Rockies will make the Century Downs Winner’s Zone Playoff Round.
