Nordegg will be a destination for many as the annual Nordegg Days celebration returns Aug. 31 to Sept. 2.
Organized by the Nordegg Community Association, the occasion is billed by organizers as an opportunity to show off everything the small community has to offer.
First started in 2016, Nordegg Days is part of the wider Alberta Culture Days that happen throughout the province during the month of September.
Nordegg Community Association committee member, Jennifer Ariano says the weekend will be packed with activities.
The first day is to include workshops for ribbon dying, tool building and disc golf. Saturday demonstrations include fly tying, mountain yoga, leather stamping and Viking wood splitting.
Ariano says Viking wood splitting is very interesting to watch, as a local resident will demonstrate how chop logs with specially-made swords.
The Mountain & Mines crafters market will be running from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. near the church, which Ariano says will be larger than ever.
“We’ve got farmers market approval, we’re going to have a wider variety of vendors coming this year, which we’re really excited about,” says Ariano.
Organizers say to come to the event hungry, as there will be a charity BBQ, with proceeds going to the Nordegg Trail System.
Additionally, Miners Cafe will be hosting a free pie eating contest at 2:30 p.m. Organizers say there will be prizes for the best pie eater, and onsite registration is required.
To cap off the day, the Rocky Mountain House-based Western Wheels Auto Club will be bringing its show to Nordegg for the very first time. The show ‘n shine goes from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
