The Rocky Jr. Rebels bantam and peewee football teams are inviting everyone to a day of football fun at Curtis Field on Sept. 21.
Along with two home games scheduled back-to-back, organizers say people can enjoy football related activities, music from a live DJ, concession, as well as a raffle and 50/50 draw.
Doug Laut, president of the Rocky Mountain House and District Minor Football Association, hopes the event will create new fans of local football.
“We’re trying to kick off the season, create a bit of a splash,” says Laut. “Maybe recruit some more players or expose people to football.”
Laut says the raffle will be a two-night hotel stay in Edmonton or Calgary, along with spending money, valued at around $1,200.
The event will be a great chance for folks to get an up-close look at the field, says Laut, as well as the newly-completed, nearly $400,000 lighting masts.
“The fields are in amazing shape. The new lights are there. You can come and have a look at them. They’re impressive to see, especially when you’re right up underneath them on their 80-foot masts,” says Laut. “We’re trying to get some more kids interested in playing football as well.”

Before that celebration, however, Laut says both the bantam and peewee teams will play a night game on Sept. 14, which will be a chance for the organization to show off the four new, mega-lighting structures surrounding Curtis Field.
The ‘night game’ day will feature double-header with the peewees playing at 4 p.m., and the bantams kicking off at 7 p.m.
“There definitely will be some night games with football,” says Laut. “We’re just still trying to work out with the league officials, as far as the referees and a couple of teams as to when we can actually make that night game happen.”
As for football day on Sept. 21, events will begin around 12 p.m., says Laut, with bantam at 1 p.m., followed by peewee kickoff off at 4 p.m.
