Clearwater County public works officials say the Leslieville paving and resurfacing project has been completed- including a return to the hamlet to repair some deficiencies from the first run of paving.
Division 2 Councillor Sydney Graham said there were some concerns raised by hamlet residents after the initial summer paving work was completed.
However, now that the public works team has repaired the deficiencies, Graham says she’s heard from hamlet residents who are pleased with the work.
In an e-mailed statement to 94.5 Rewind Radio News, Kate Reglin, capital projects supervisor with Clearwater County says the project included a combination of crack repair, asphalt overlay and micro-surfacing of all the roads throughout the hamlet.
Reglin adds, deficiencies are common during road construction work, and the surface is now expected to last five to seven years.
Additionally, it also included paving of the Leslieville Elks Hall parking lot.
Micro-surfacing is a surface treatment used for rut filling, filling minor surface cavities, correcting weathered, pitted, and raveled asphalt surfaces.
The resurfaced roads also include a skid-resistance surface designed to extend the roadway’s life cycle.
An asphalt overlay was used in areas that required additional strength in the road structure and improved parking in strategic areas.
The 2024 budget is $831,000. The project is projected to be approximately $65,000 under budget.
The county also installed a new playground, designed for children ages 18 months to five years old, which is now open to the public.
Currently, county officials say it is waiting on Canada Post to move the mailboxes to the permanent location which is along the east boundary of the property.
Once the mailboxes have been moved, Reglin says the county will complete the landscaping and fencing around the playground.
