Around $17,000 was raised for the Leslieville Community Centre’s $400,000 goal to become compliant with occupancy regulations.
Around 220 attendants, along with dozens of volunteers attended the Oct. 26 event, say organizers, which also featured a catered dinner and entertainment from Ben Crane.
It was a full house as organizers say there were so many people in the building, overflow chairs and tables were required to accommodate.
While organizers are elated with the $17,000 total from the event, more fundraising efforts will be required.
“It’s just a dent”, says booking coordinator Melissa Wright. “We know that the community is here to support us and they want us to stick around.”
Wright says the community centre is in need of necessary renovations for it to continue to hold a valid occupancy permit— a cost of over $400,000.

The centre’s next fundraising event will be “The Haunted Walk” taking place Nov. 1-2.
It’s a $10 donation to experience the outdoor, ‘haunted house’ style event, says Wright, and there will be scares geared toward adults, as well as a kid-appropriate experience.
Wright adds, more fundraising initiatives are planned for the coming months.
