After three years of community organizing and countless volunteer hours, a ribbon-cutting ceremony is planned for Nov. 8, to celebrate a newly completed playground structure at Everdell Hall.
The ceremony will be attended by local dignitaries, including Rimbey-Rocky Mountain House-Sundre MLA Jason Nixon and Matt Martinson, Director of Agricultural Services, Clearwater County.
Under the supervision of Alberta-based playground company Blue Imp, a group of volunteers worked from Sept. 26 to 28, to complete the project.
Many volunteers answered the call to help build the structure, says Valerie Murray, President, Everdell Community Hall.
“It was quite amazing to see that in four days, it went from nothing to up and done and ready to go,” says Murray.
While the official opening is yet to come, Murray adds, the playground is open to the public and she sees children playing on it nearly every time she drives by.
The $145,000 project was jointly funded by grants from the North Saskatchewan Recreation Board, the provincial Community Facilities Improvement Program (CFIP), and fundraising initiatives at Everdell Hall, including its annual spring dinner theatre.
Murray also extends gratitude to All Choice Rentals for donating the use of excavating equipment to help complete the job.
“This will be the first proper playground structure at the hall in years,” says Murray, noting that an old, archaic wooden structure was removed from the site years ago.
Murray adds, the playground will be a great value-added addition for years to come, as the hall is getting busier every year.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for Friday, Nov. 8, at 1:30 p.m. Light snacks will be provided.
Everdell Hall is located approximately 12 km south of Rocky Mountain House at 383013 Everdell Road (Range Rd. 7-3).
