The Rocky Kinsmen Club and the West Country Kinettes have organized a full slate of fun, holiday themed events as part of the annual Christmas With Kin.
Members have been planning for the event most of the year, says Jana Thompson, co-chair of the Christmas With Kin Committee.
“As soon as Christmas with Kin wrapped up in 2023, we had about two weeks off and started planning,” says Thompson.
The event has been happening for the past several years in Rocky, and is an evolution of the previously held Festival of Trees event, says Thompson
Daily events have been planned around Rocky Mountain House from Nov. 25 to Nov 30.
Nov. 25: Father & Daughter Dinner at Pine Hills Golf Club from 5-9 p.m.
- A evening out for dads and daughters, says Thompson. The Kinettes host a dinner. The event also features a photo booth and $5 Children’s Store.
Nov. 26: Mother & Son Dinner at Pine Hills Golf Club from 5-9 p.m.
- An evening out for mothers and sons. A fancy dinner, as well as photo booth and $5 Children’s Store.
Nov. 27 and Nov. 28: Seniors’ Luncheon at Rocky Curling Club from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
- Thompson says a beautiful space will be set up for the event which features entertainment, along with a soup, sandwich and dessert lunch.
Nov. 28: Burgers & Root Beers at Lou Soppit Community Centre
- Sponsored by A&W, this event features burgers and root beer floats with ice cream from Cow Lake Store. Thompson adds the $5 Children’s Store will be open and there will be sleigh rides at nearby trails.
Nov. 29: Free Community Day throughout Rocky Mountain House
- This day is set to feature four free movies at Rocky Cinemas starting at 9 a.m. starting with How The Grinch Stole Christmas. Free skating at the Rocky Regional Recreation Centre from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Free public swimming will be held from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Credit Union Co-op Aquatic Centre. A Christmas market will also be held at the arena during the day.
Nov. 29: Christmas Cabaret at Lou Soppit Community Centre from 5:30-9 p.m.
- This 18+ event will feature a DJ, dinner and dancing, says Thompson.
Nov 30: PJs and Pancakes with Santa at Lou Soppit Community Centre from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.
- This family friendly event will feature photos with Santa. A pancake breakfast will be served with sausages and cookies. The $5 Children’s Store will be open.
Nov. 30: Parade of Lights from 7- 9 p.m.
- The parade is set to begin at 7:00 p.m. and head down 60 St. before turning onto 52 Ave. and then finishing up on Main St. Thompson says the Kinettes will be accepting donations of food, clothing and toiletries during the parade to be given to local non profits.
Admissions for ticketed events can be purchased at The Brick in Rocky Mountain House. Seniors’ Luncheon tickets can be purchased at West Country Family Service Association. PJs and Pancakes tickets can be purchased at Rocky Mountain Dodge.
