West Country Family Service Association (WCFSA) will once again be providing local seniors with gift hampers this upcoming Christmas season as part of its Adopt-A-Senior Program.
Community members are invited to donate items such as clothing, shoes, groceries, toiletries and kitchen items to fill out the hampers. Additionally, other gifts such as magazines, books, hobby materials, and monetary donations will also be accepted.
It’s something that started out as a small way to spread some holiday cheer, but has grown to be a much-loved initiative every year, says WCFSA executive director, Marina Kulich.
She adds, the community buy-in has been growing every year. As a case in point, she says 57 hampers were completed in 2023— slightly more than the average of around 50.
Donations can be dropped off anytime to the WCFSA office at 4934 50 St. in Rocky Mountain House. Additionally, Kulich says the organization will be participating in the upcoming Parade of Lights on Nov. 30. Staff and volunteers will be serving hot chocolate at the main office, and folks can also drop off donations to that location at that time.
Kulich adds, the organization is currently seeking board members. It’s a volunteer commitment of about one hour a month. For more information, people can call 403-845-2033.
Also, Kulich says people can get their tickets for the upcoming Christmas With Kin Seniors’ Luncheon on Nov. 27 and Nov. 28 at the WCFSA office.
WCFSA provides programs to local seniors such as medical appointment transportation, and other initiatives to help them age gracefully and thrive in their own homes.
