A Sundre man has been found guilty of first degree murder and sentenced to life in prison following a homicide that took place in a Sundre McDonald’s in 2022.
Solaimane Elbettah, 29, was sentenced in Calgary Court of King’s Bench on Dec. 12, 2024, for the murder of 19-year-old Josh Burns, who was also a Sundre resident.
Elbettah will not be eligible for parole until July 4, 2047. However, he may apply for a reduction in his sentence, with no eligibility for parole, after 15 years are served. He has also been given a firearms prohibition.
On July 4, 2022, Sundre RCMP responded to a call about a homicide at a local McDonald’s, where Josh Burns was found deceased.
Police did not disclose details about the nature of his death or whether any weapons were used, but believed it to be an isolated occurrence.
Elbettah, 27 at the time, was located close to the scene and arrested without incident, Mounties reported.
