Nomination forms and candidate guidelines for prospective candidates running for Clearwater County council are now available.
The county’s website provides detailed information on frequently asked questions about campaigning rules, financial contributions, expenses, and potential conflicts of interest.
For example, prospective candidates must collect a minimum of five signatures on their nomination papers and are limited to contributing a maximum of $10,000 of their own money to their campaign during the campaign period. Nomination forms must be submitted by noon on September 22.
To be eligible for Clearwater County council, candidates must:
- Be a Canadian citizen
- Be at least 18 years old on September 22, 2025
- Be a resident of Clearwater County, in the ward in which they intend to run, for at least six consecutive months preceding nomination day
- Be eligible to vote without being disqualified under any other legislation
Candidates are not eligible if they:
- Are an employee of Clearwater County (unless granted a leave of absence before nomination day)
- Are an auditor of Clearwater County
- Owe more than $50 in property taxes or are in default of a debt to Clearwater County over $500 for more than 90 days
- Have been convicted of an offence under the Local Authorities Election Act, Election Act, or Canada Elections Act in the last 10 years
