Registration is now open for the eagerly awaited Freezin’ For A Reason Polar Bear Dip, set to take place during Crimson Lake Winterfest, with proceeds supporting a variety of local causes. This marks the 8th year for the event, which allows participants to take a chilly plunge into the lake while raising funds for charities of their choice.
Aaron Hillman, organizer of Crimson Lake Winterfest, shared details of this year’s event, highlighting a few exciting changes. “We’ve lowered the registration fees this year to $10 for adults, and it’s free for those aged 16 and 17,” Hillman said. “Thanks to sponsorship from the Rocky Credit Union and Evergreen Co-op, we’re able to keep it affordable while offering lots of fun activities.”
He adds that youth jumpers must have a parent or guardian present.
Participants can sign up by emailing rockyfreezin@outlook.com to receive their registration forms, with a deadline for sign-ups at 5 p.m. on Feb. 14. This year’s event promises more than just the iconic Polar Bear Dip. Hillman explained, “We’ve got sleigh rides, cross-country skiing, pond hockey, ice skating, and even fishing demonstrations from conservation officers.”
A key feature of the event is its flexibility in charity fundraising. Participants can raise money for any organization, though local causes are particularly encouraged. Past fundraising efforts have supported organizations like Rocky Search and Rescue, the Rocky Library, The Rocky Organization for Animal Rescue (ROAR), STARS Air Ambulance, as well as local youth initiatives. A minimum of $100 must be raised to participate in the dip, with prizes awarded for top fundraisers and best costumes.

This year, those who complete a passport of activities will be entered into a draw for a free registration for camp at Pioneer Ranch, where winners can enjoy horseback riding and other outdoor adventures. Additionally, Alberta Parks has donated free camping spots to encourage further community participation.
Hillman emphasized the family-friendly atmosphere, “We’re aiming for a great day of fun, whether you’re dipping in the lake or just enjoying the winter activities.”
For those interested in volunteering, Hillman noted there are still opportunities to get involved. Volunteers can also contact rockyfreezin@outlook.com for more information.
With the event just around the corner, Hillman encourages everyone to sign up soon, as the team is hoping to see an even bigger turnout this year.
