West Country residents can explore career opportunities in dozens of different trades during the upcoming Titans of Trade Job Fair, set for March 13 at the Lou Soppit Community Centre.
According to a 2023 report by the Business Council of Alberta, nearly 20 per cent of job postings in the province were for trade positions. Organizers say this job fair aims to shine a spotlight on the 52 trades in Alberta, offering youth and job seekers the chance to explore career opportunities in our region.
The event will feature interactive booths, hands-on activities, and the chance to meet industry professionals. Attendees will also learn about apprenticeship opportunities during a morning presentation geared toward students and employers.
In the afternoon, keynote speaker Jamie McMillan, a passionate advocate for skilled trades, will share her insights.
McMillan became an ironworker in 2002 when women only represented 2 per cent of the associated workforce across Canada and the United States. Through her talks, she related to the struggles and challenges of working a male dominated field, but is on a mission to break down the negative misconceptions and stereotypes.
Speaking engagement topics include empowerment, innovation, as well as career pathways and fulfillment.
