Grab your tie dye tee shirt and your best pair of hammer pants, because the Leslieville Community Center will be hosting a 90s themed dance on Feb. 28, to raise funds for much-needed renovations at the hall.
Booking Coordinator Melissa Wright says a fun evening is in store with prizes for best dressed, full bar service and a DJ taking requests all night long.
“Come dressed as your favorite 90s band or artist, or just your favorite 90s nostalgic outfit,” says Wright.
Additionally, she says the Leslieville Elks are volunteering their time to offer safe rides home.
Since mid-2024, the hall has been trying to raise $500,000 towards renovations required for it to hold a valid occupancy permit, and thus, be able to keep its doors open.
Recently the hall has been inviting area residents to write a letter of support to help it apply for grants— many of them “matching” grants from various levels of government.
Wright says the letters can include information about how important the hall is to the area, from groups facilitated in the building, to important life events such as weddings that have happened at the hall.
Those wishing to help can email a letter of support for the grant application to leslievillecommunitycenter@gmail.com.
Previously, the hall has held several fundraisers, such as a harvest supper and Halloween-themed event.
Tickets for the 18+ event are $22.63 and can be purchased here. Tickets are $25 at the door. Wright advises people to bring cash as there’s no ATM on site.
Doors open at 7 p.m. with proceeds going to support renovations at the hall.
Wright adds, the board is busy planning more fundraising events for 2025.
