A number of West Country female business trailblazers were recognized March 7 at the Mountain View and Neighbours Women in Business awards in Olds.
Tracey McRimmon from Sundre Petroleum Operators Group took third place runner-up.
Tatyana Pavlovets, executive director of the Central Alberta Livestock and Forage Association took home third place runner-up in the Woman In Agriculture category.
Meantime, Jacquie Jones from Sundre Family Pharmacy took home second place runner-up in the overall business category.
Even though she didn’t take first place, Pavlovets said it was a great day to celebrate women in agriculture and business.
“I’m just so thrilled to be part of a community where women are really taking leadership roles,” says Pavlovets. “Whether it’s not-for-profit, for-profit or agriculture.”
Taking the spotlight off herself, Pavolets took some time to highlight contributions of other women in business and agriculture.
A keynote speech was delivered by West Country entrepreneur Tanya Koshowski, who is co-owner of Miner’s Cafe in Nordegg. Pavlovets says she related to Koshowski as both were raised in big cities, but are now thriving and finding community in rural areas.
Pavlovets highlighted many women who are doing innovative things in the Alberta business community. That includes her co-nominee Josee Kirk from Kirk’s Alpaca Farm near Three Hills, as well as Rocky Mountain House area resident Deb Skeels who was recently honoured with Clearwater County’s award for Sustainable Grazing.
