Organizers with the fourth annual First Responders Face-Off for Charity hockey game in Rocky Mountain House have announced it has raised $10,300 at this year’s event.
This year’s charity was the Alberta Hunter Education Instructor Association (AHEIA) Youth Program. The organization aims to not only teach young Albertans safe and responsible outdoor practices, but encourages them to enjoy the great outdoors.
The event brought together local first responders for an exciting hockey game that pitted the Clearwater Regional Fire Rescue Services (CRFRS) team against the Rocky Mountain House RCMP detachment.
Organizer and firefighters team member, Devin Russell says the RCMP have won the game every year, and sadly for CRFRS, 2025 was no different. “It was 2-1 for the RCMP. Another year short for the firefighters. However, it was a closer game and stayed close until the end.”
One of the highlights of the event was the special appearance by Jacob Ardown, one half of the comedic duo “On the Bench.” Ardown, known for his humorous hockey commentary and antics, represented the fire department on the ice. Russell says his presence was a hit with the crowd, particularly the kids in attendance, as he spent time before the game and during breaks taking photos and signing autographs.
Previous charities included the Rocky Health Foundation in 2024, and the Lord’s Food Bank in 2022.
The game was held Saturday March 22 at the Bunch Arena.
