Voters in the Yellowhead riding will have a chance to hear directly from their federal election candidates this weekend at an all-candidates forum hosted by the Caroline & District Chamber of Commerce.
The event is set for Saturday, April 12 at the Caroline Community Hub, part of the Kurt Browning Arena complex.
Reg Dean, president of the Caroline Chamber and longtime organizer, said the forum continues a local tradition that dates back over four decades.
“The Chamber’s been hosting these since 1981—we haven’t missed an election,” said Dean. “It’s kind of old school now, but people really appreciate the chance to engage with the candidates face to face.”
Dean adds four candidates have confirmed their attendance.
Attendees can expect a straightforward format: each candidate will begin with a three-minute opening statement, followed by a moderated Q&A using written questions from the audience. A panel will review submissions to avoid duplication and ensure respectful dialogue. The night wraps with closing remarks from each candidate—though, Dean says there’s no official end time.
“There’s no cutoff—we go as long as people have questions,” said Dean. “And we usually get some pretty thoughtful ones at these smaller town forums.”
Questions can be submitted the night of the event using forms provided at the venue. Those unable to attend in person can also email their questions to the Chamber by 6:50 p.m. on Saturday. The chamber’s e-mail is ccoc@telus.net.
Dean says turnout is always a wildcard, but with signs already going up across the riding, he suspects there’s growing interest in this year’s race.
Doors open around 6:00 p.m. and the forum begins at 7:00 p.m.
