Supporters of end-of-life care in Rocky Mountain House will be lacing up their shoes for a morning of movement, memories and community spirit.
The Compassionate Care Hospice Society (CCHS) is hosting its annual Walk for Hospice on June 1, with participants invited to walk, run or bike in support of hospice care programs and services in the area.
Participants can choose a three, five, or 10 kilometer distance on Rocky Mountain House trails.
Registration opens just after 9 a.m. at the Rocky Rec Centre, followed by a welcome speech and group warm-up at 10 a.m. Participants will hit the trail at 10:15 a.m., with a cheeseburger lunch served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Registration for adults is $30, and youth is $15. Lunch is included. Drake says everyone who registers will be given a pledge sheet to raise more funds.
Participants are encouraged to come in costume, with prizes up for grabs for best-dressed walkers and for the individuals or teams who raise the most money. All proceeds go toward local hospice care programs, which provide end-of-life support and grief services for families.
Melissa Drake, marketing coordinator for CCHS, says the organization’s mission is to provide professional, end-of-life care to all residents of Clearwater County.
Drake adds, the organization’s hospice suite is made available free of charge to residents and their families along with bereavement services.
As the organization’s largest fundraising event of the year, the Walk For Hospice raised $9,229 in 2024. Drake says the goal for 2025 is $12,000.
Participants can sign up until May 28. Additionally, businesses and individuals interested in supporting the event through sponsorship can e-mail cchs.marketingcoordinator@gmail.com, or message through the organization’s Facebook page.
The suite is located in Rocky Mountain House inside the Good Samaritan Society Centre (5615 60 St).
