William Stevenson has officially been sworn in as Member of Parliament for Yellowhead.
The ceremony, held May 23 in Ottawa, follows Stevenson’s landslide victory in the riding, where he secured 69.1 per cent of the vote.
Before being sworn in, Stevenson said he was busy setting up his office in Ottawa.
Additionally, since the election, leader Pierre Poilievre announced his shadow cabinet. While many Alberta MPs were named as shadow ministers, Stevenson was not.
Blaine Calkins from neighboring Ponoka-Didsbury will be shadow minister for Hunting, Fishing, and Conservation, while Sherwood Park-Fort Saskatchewan MP Garnett Genuis is shadow minister of Employment, and southern Alberta MP John Barlow was named shadow minister for Agriculture and Agri-Food.
Parliament has been recalled, and Prime Minister Mark Carney announced King Charles will read the speech from the throne. It is expected to describe the Liberal government’s plan to define a new economic relationship with the U-S, its plan to build the economy and to bring down the cost of living.
