The Rocky Museum will once again be hosting a day full of fun at its annual Museum Day on May 31.
Museum Day offers free admission and a full day of interactive fun, from classic backyard games to live heritage displays.
“There’s something for everyone,” says Jean Marie Mason, the museum’s manager. “We have bean bag toss, rope-the-horse games with hula hoops, and a few other surprises for the kids.”
Among the highlights this year is the grand opening of the museum’s fully restored log home — a project nearly two years in the making and supported by local volunteers, donors, and community partners. The ribbon-cutting ceremony will be attended by MLA Jason Nixon, Clearwater County Deputy Reeve Bryan Cermak, and Rocky Mountain House town councillor Dale Shippelt.
“It’s been a big project. We had a lot of volunteers, some community donors, some corporate donors — a lot of people came together to help us restore and move the log home,” says Mason. With a total project budget nearing $180,000, nearly one-third of that came through donations, and much of the work was carried out by dedicated volunteers.

The house — once home to Edna Brown, who lived there during the summer months up until the late 1980s — now features a restored staircase, whitewashed walls, and a new summer kitchen.
While only “99 per cent” finished, Mason confirms it’s ready for visitors to explore after Saturday’s official opening.
For an additional taste of history, Mason said Edna Brown’s famous date square recipe will be served.

Live demonstrations will offer a glimpse into pioneer life, including fleece spinning, rug braiding, and an antique washing machine brought in by local resident Peter DeBruyn.
Kids can also meet Rocky Credit Union’s mascot Fat Cat for photo ops, while Clearwater Regional Fire Rescue Services will have an activity booth.
Though admission is free, donations to the Lord’s Food Bank will be gratefully accepted throughout the day.
“We’re hoping for lots of visitors to come and maybe we’ll make some new friends,” Mason adds.
Museum Day runs 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
