Work has begun in earnest to upgrades at the Leslieville Firefighter Training Grounds.
According to a Clearwater County capital projects update, the concrete pad has been poured.
Next steps include the installation of a flashover simulator, in which a contractor has been procured for the project.
An engineering firm is looking into detailed designs for a pressurized hydrant system.
John Liadis, fire chief of Clearwater Regional Fire Rescue Services (CRFRS) says a flashover simulator is a tool used to train firefighters for dangerous situations, while the pressurized hydrant system will not only be used for training, but also to better fight fires in the east end of the county.
The work is part of around $1 million in capital spending earmarked for the hamlet of Leslieville in 2025— $600,000 will be going to the training grounds alone.
Recently, CRFRS procured a fire truck from the town of Rocky Mountain House for $65,000 which will serve in Leslieville.
The entire project is expected to be completed by November 2025.
