Longtime area resident Denise Boniface has put her name forward to run for Rocky Mountain House town council this fall.
Please provide a little background on yourself, including how long you’ve lived in the area.
Why do you want to run for council?
I want to run for council to support the continued economic growth of our town by addressing the needs of the residents and businesses.
What personal or professional experience do you feel would make you a good councillor?
First and foremost, I’m a long-term resident. I’ve seen a lot of changes—things coming and going—and I’ve been both a business owner and a manager. I bring that experience with me. I know a lot of the residents and understand what draws people to Rocky Mountain House. Through my businesses, including my SCUBA diving company, I’ve successfully promoted my work worldwide. I believe I can bring fresh ideas for promoting and helping Rocky Mountain House grow.
If elected, what would be a few top priorities?
One of my main priorities would be preparing the town for development. Right now, we don’t have any shovel-ready residential properties. Being involved in construction, I see at least a couple of people every month who want to build in Rocky—but there’s nothing ready to go. If we were more prepared, we could better support those looking to move here.
Another key priority would be planning for upcoming capital expenditures—such as new buildings for the RCMP and the town office. I’d like to explore the idea of partnering with the county, which also needs a new office. Instead of building two separate facilities, why not house them together?
Lastly, I’d like to continue strengthening our relationship with Clearwater County. We’ve always been good neighbors; I want to help keep it that way.
Where can people learn more about you and your priorities?
Is there anything else you’d like to add?
I would like to add that this is my community, and I care deeply about the wonderful people who reside here. I would like the opportunity to be their voice on council by addressing their needs. I will encourage, explore, respect, and promote local ideas for future development.
