With “heartfelt appreciation”, the Rocky Health Foundation has announced that Merv and Earlyne Pidherney have donated a new state of the art x-ray machine to the Rocky Mountain House Health Centre.
Already in commission, the new machine boasts high-tech features such as near-instant x-ray processing, portability for patients in every corner of the hospital, as well as a 50 per cent reduction in radiation during imaging.
“These are going to be much better quality images than what the old machine has provided,” says Shirley Hope, chair of the Rocky Health Foundation, who adds physicians will be able to view x-rays at patients’ bedside, rather than needing to walk to the x-ray department.

Hope says the donation was “very large”, with the total cost being covered by the Pidherneys. “At this time, we’re not comfortable sharing that amount. It will leave a lasting, positive benefit to the patients at our hospital.”
The new machine will replace the old portable unit which Hope describes as “no longer state of the art.”
She adds, Rocky is fortunate to have this technology close to home, as its so new that very few hospitals in Canada have one.
