Alberta RCMP have arrested and charged an individual in connection to a homicide that occurred on the O’Chiese First Nation in January.
On Jan. 28, 2025, Rocky Mountain House RCMP responded to an alleged shooting at a residence on O’Chiese First Nation. Police located a deceased male and the Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit has since been investigating the death as a homicide.
The deceased was identified as 41-year-old Shawn Lee Geddes.
Following the investigation, on July 29, 2025, the Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit arrested and charged 28-year-old Derrick Phazar Whitford with second-degree murder.
Whitford was already in custody for separate charges related to a homicide that occurred in November 2024 and, as such, was remanded for future court dates at the Alberta Court of Justice in Red Deer.
