Trial dates have now been set for a man charged in a central Alberta homicide last year.
Elijah Traves Strawberry, 29, is scheduled for a jury trial in Calgary Court of King’s Bench from May 4-29, 2026.
He was ordered to stand trial in Calgary Court of Justice on June 23, 2025, following a preliminary hearing held earlier in the spring.
It was on Feb. 28, 2025, when officers arrested Elijah Strawberry at the Red Deer Remand Centre where he was in custody on unrelated matters.
On Apr. 30, 2024, at approximately 12:07 p.m., Rocky Mountain House RCMP responded to a report of a deceased male on the O’Chiese First Nation. Officers attended and located 21-year-old Jayden Carter with a gunshot wound. As a result, the Alberta Major Crimes Unit took over the investigation.
Strawberry, a resident of O’Chiese First Nation, was charged with the following offences:
- Manslaughter;
- Fail to comply with a weapon prohibition order;
- Unauthorized possession of a weapon.
Strawberry was taken before a Justice of the Peace and remanded in custody.
