This is a candidate profile for Rocky Mountain House resident Gordon Majeran, who is running for town council this fall.
Please provide a little background on yourself, including how long you’ve lived in the area.
My background is in the area of Local Government Administration and I have served at both the elected and Administrative level. My service was in both Alberta (Stettler & Barrhead) and Saskatchewan (Melville & Elrose). My wife, Joan, and I moved to Rocky Mountain House from Stettler in January of 2008.
Why do you want to run for council?
Serving on Town Council provides the opportunity for me to use my training and experience to support the continued growth of our community, both economically and from a quality of life perspective.
What personal or professional experience do you feel would make you a good councillor?
Until my retirement in 2015 I served The Wild Rose School Division in the capacity of Associate Superintendent, Corporate Services. Prior to that I served as Secretary-Treasurer for the Clearview School Division in Stettler as well as School Divisions in Saskatchewan. Following my retirement, Joan and I served two volunteer missions. One in Romania – Moldova (18 months) and the other in Atlantic Canada (12 months).
If elected, what would be a few top priorities?
I have reviewed the Strategic plan prepared by the previous Council and fully support the initiatives contained therein. As with all strategic plans they are living documents and therefore I would certainly welcome the opportunity to review the plan with the new Mayor and Council. I am keenly interested in enhancing our relationships with surrounding Local Governments as well as community organizations.
