The Rocky Barracuda Swim Club is hosting its registration night for the 2025/26 season on Sept. 18.
Anyone who is five to 18-years-old is eligible to join the club as an age group swimmer, with the typical swim season usually starting at the beginning of October and going until mid-June.
The only prerequisite for all swimmers is to be able to swim one length of the pool (25m) unassisted.
During the season, practices are held encouraging swimmers to start with their own style, but within a few weeks, they will be introduced to swimming freestyle. Swimmers will also learn proper techniques of dive starts, off the blocks and off the ledge, and flip turns.
Crystal Stang, president of the Rocky Barracuda’s Swim Club says many first-time participants discover a lifelong love of swimming.
“Some of our swimmers like the aspect that it’s an individual sport — so you’re bettering yourself,” she says. “But also that you’re part of a team that cheers you on and supports you in that growth.

Participants will also have the chance to compete at several swim meets throughout the season for a chance to win ribbons — although the emphasis remains on beating personal best times.
Stang adds, it’s a significant year in the club’s history, as it’s celebrating 45 years in Rocky Mountain House. The club will be celebrating with a special event planned for the spring, which will include invites to Barracuda alumni.
Registration night will happen Thursday, Sept. 18 from 5-7 p.m. at the Rocky Recreation Centre.
