The Alberta government is providing $690,000 to support transitional activities and infrastructure projects in the former village of Caroline.
The funding comes through the Alberta Community Partnership (ACP) program and was confirmed in a letter from Dan Williams, Alberta’s minister of Municipal Affairs.
Caroline amalgamated with Clearwater County on Jan. 1, and efforts to align the two municipalities are ongoing.
This latest funding is in addition to a $1.2-million grant received in February 2025 through the Municipal Restructuring (MR) program. That funding was based on a population of 470 in the former village.
However, since then. the MR component has increased to a maximum of $1.5 million based on a maximum population of 500.
Considering the change so close to the amalgamation, Williams says the minister decided to increase the county’s funding to align with the new eligible amounts.
As a result, Clearwater County will receive:
-
$435,000 in transitional funding (an increase from the previously approved $250,000); and
-
$1.455 million in infrastructure funding (up from the approved $950,000).
Reeve Michelle Swanson said the new funds are welcome.
“When it comes to budget time, we’ll see those funds put to good use, without a doubt,” she said.
Indeed, a plan presented to council in September outlines a long list of projects requiring attention — some urgently.
