Injuries and penalty trouble dogged the Rocky Rams over the Oct. 17-19 weekend, but the team still managed to pick up points.
Oct. 17 vs. Ponoka Stampeders
The team skated away with a 7-2 win over division rivals Ponoka Stampeders.
Head coach Cody McLellan said it was a good overall team effort, with a standout performance from Ty Gyori, who has been putting up consistent point production for the team.
“We got into some penalty trouble, but we’ll take the two points and get us going in the right direction,” said McLellan.
Oct. 19 vs. Mountain View Colts
Penalty trouble continued to be a recurring theme in a Sunday matinee vs. Mountain View.
The Rams had a 3-1 lead in the third period. However, after taking a major penalty late in the game, the Colts stormed back and tied the game.
Overtime solved nothing, and after six rounds in the shootout, the Colts skated away with a 4-3 win.
Next up: Two games Oct. 24-25
The 3-6-1 Rams will hit the road on Friday for a game against the Cochrane Generals for the first meeting of the season.
“It should be a very winnable game if we show up the right way,” says McLellan. “So far, every team we’ve played, I’ve felt that we’ve been in the game.”
On Saturday, it’ll be rematch of Sunday’s matinee, with the Mountain View Colts once again visiting the Rocky Arena.
“Based on what I’ve seen on Sunday, I feel very confident that we should be able to win against Mountain View,” says McLellan.
Game time is 8:00 p.m. at the Rocky Arena.
