Clearwater County has completed recounts in two wards following razor-thin results in the recent municipal election.
The recount showed an even closer finish than the initial count, with Tyler McCauley winning in Ward 5 by eight votes and incumbent Bryan Cermak taking Ward 6 by a four-vote margin over Russell Barnett.

Officials said that while some candidates’ vote totals changed slightly, the recount did not alter the overall results announced on election night. The recounts were requested by the second-place candidates in each ward.
On election night, McCauley led James Cuthill by 10 votes in Ward 5, while Cermak held a five-vote edge over Barnett in Ward 6.

Official totals are expected to be released by noon Friday, Oct. 24.
Under provincial election rules, recounts can be called in very close races, when ballot counts appear inaccurate, when a significant number of ballots were rejected, or if administrative or technical errors may have occurred.
