Rocky Mountain House town council has turfed its previously scheduled Dec. 2 regular council meeting, but will reconvene for budget talks next week.
The decision to move the meeting came during a short special council meeting held on Nov. 26, where Deputy Mayor Dale Shippelt made the following motion:
“[To] cancel the Dec. 2 council meeting, and revert [the agenda] to the following meeting on Dec. 16”
The reason provided by Shippelt was that “some people are not going to be here”, and council would not have the quorum to conduct a meeting.
Even though the meeting lasted all of two minutes, council is required by the Municipal Government Act (MGA) to convene to pass a resolution to cancel the meeting.
Town officials confirm that council will reconvene for 2026 budget talks at town office from Dec. 10-12.
Agenda items from the now-cancelled Dec. 2 meeting will be addressed during the next council meeting on Dec. 16.
