New signage is coming to Caroline after Clearwater County council approved the final design.
Updated, larger signs will be installed at the east and west hamlet boundaries along Highway 54. Smaller, standard green “Welcome to Caroline” roadway signs will be installed at the north and south boundaries.
At its Feb. 10 meeting, council debated whether the word “hamlet” should be included on the signs. Ultimately, council approved administration’s proposed design, which does not include the word.

In addition to the four boundary signs, 58 intersection signs will be updated with standard white-on-green signage to align with the rest of the county. Current intersection signs still reflect the former village branding.

Residents were invited to provide feedback during a Feb. 3 Caroline Area Structure Plan (ASP) information session. Administration reported that no public comments were received regarding the proposed signage changes.
A display board outlining the proposal was presented at the session and remains available for viewing at the Caroline Administration Office and in the main lobby of the Clearwater County administration building in Rocky Mountain House.
Council approved up to $2,500 for the replacement of intersection signs. The larger entrance signs and smaller north and south welcome signs are estimated to cost $2,400. Administration said no budget adjustments will be required due to the relatively low cost of the replacements.
