It’s set to be a banner year for the 57th annual Rocky Oilmen’s Bonspiel, as the organization is set to celebrate a major milestone in Rocky.
A full slate of 32 teams is set to descend on the Rocky Curling Club March 19-22 with prizes and the coveted oilmen’s trophy up for grabs.
“This year is extra special as we celebrate 60 years of oilmen’s in the local community,” says Rocky Oilmen’s president Len Doroschuk Jr., who notes the energy industry bonspiel is typically the largest event on the Rocky Curling Club’s calendar each year.
He adds, most of the 32 teams are from the Rocky area; however, a number of teams are from out of town from as far away as Calgary and Grande Prairie.
One again this year, the bonspiel will support its long-standing high school scholarships which awards bursaries to local students entering careers in either energy or trades.
For the first time this year, Doroschuk Jr. says the new Evergreen Co-op Community Builders awards will be handed out. The awards highlight contributions of industry members who give back to their communities in exceptional ways.

The weekend’s proceedings also mark the first oilmen’s bonspiel since major truss repairs were completed on the Rocky Curling Club building.
Throughout much of 2025, around $500,000 worth of work was completed to shore up the building’s aging roof.
