A Rocky Mountain House tradition returns March 21 as the 20th annual Rocky Pro Rodeo Tarp Auction takes place at the Royal Canadian Legion.
Advertising space on chuckwagon tarps will be sold by live auction, with 80 per cent of proceeds going to the drivers and 20 per cent supporting the Rocky Pro Rodeo, helping fund purses for this summer’s event.
Board secretary Stephanie Closs says the auction has long been a win-win for the community, offering businesses a unique way to advertise while supporting local drivers. She adds many of the drivers make the trip to Rocky to attend in person, adding to the atmosphere.
Tarps can go for as low as $1,250, says Closs, making them accessible for businesses of all sizes. Successful bidders also receive passes to the rodeo for all four days.
The evening includes a free dinner for registered bidders, a silent auction, and a 50-50 draw supporting the Peacock family of Rimbey. Kayla Peacock, the 2025 Rimbey Rodeo Queen, died in a motor vehicle collision near Hinton in February.
Closs says the rodeo community is rallying to support the family during a difficult time.
The event goes Saturday March 21 at the Royal Canadian Legion in Rocky with doors opening at 5:30 p.m.
The rodeo is scheduled for June 4- 7, 2026 at North Saskatchewan River Park.
