Clearwater County has announced five spring open houses for residents to find out more and give their feedback about two previously approved Area Structure Plans (ASP) concerning development in Saunders-Alexo and Whitegoat Lakes areas.
The open houses follow concerns raised by Clearwater County’s new council about a perceived lack of public engagement before the ASPs were approved in July 2025.
The dates for the open houses are as follows:
- Tuesday March 31 from 3-5 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at Caroline Community Hub
- Wednesday April 1 from 3-5 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at Condor Community Hall
- Tuesday April 7 from 3-5 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the Rocky Regional Recreation Centre, Subway room
- Wednesday April 8 from 6-7 p.m. Virtual session.
- Friday April 10 from 3-5 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the Nordegg Community Hall
According to county documents, the engagements will aim to improve public understanding of what the ASPs do and do not do, clarify long-term planning intent versus future site-specific approvals, and identify concerns related to environmental protection, development direction, and potential taxpayer impacts.
Residents will also have the opportunity voice their opinion as to whether the ASPs should be kept in place or repealed.
In the meantime, county officials confirmed that the two node bylaws remain in full effect, and any potential developer can submit proposals.
