Patrons at the Rocky Cooperative Aquatic Centre will notice a new addition at the pool, as the Rocky Barracuda Swim Club has installed a score clock.
The clock is designed to support competitive swimmers by providing immediate feedback on times and results. Previously, swimmers had to wait for results to be processed and posted through a computer system.
The addition is also expected to enhance training, allowing athletes to quickly track their performance and improve race times. It will also help streamline swim meets by displaying lane assignments and results.
Club president Crystal Stang says the new clock aligns with the organization’s goal of promoting excellence and building character through sport.
She says the club wants to offer a program comparable to those in larger centres and to see swimming valued alongside other sports in the community.
Stang adds the clock helps “put Rocky on the map,” noting it is one of the few communities in the region with such equipment.
Fundraising for the project took about two years and included events such as casino nights, along with government grant applications.
The clock was installed March 3, 2026.

It was put to use during a swim meet on March 14, which drew more than 100 young swimmers from communities including Olds, Stettler, Red Deer, Sylvan Lake, Ponoka and Rocky Mountain House.
Stang says parents were pleased to see results displayed in real time, adding local swimmers performed strongly, placing in top categories across events.
The clock is expected to be used for practices, competitions and to simply display the time for recreational swimmers at the facility.
The 2025-26 season marks the club’s 45th anniversary in Rocky Mountain House. The club is open to swimmers aged five to 18, with the season typically running from early October to mid-June.
