The Community Foundation of Central Alberta (CFCAB) has announced the creation of the Heart of the Rockies Community Builders Fund, a permanent, community-based endowment supporting the long-term sustainability of the charitable sector in Rocky Mountain House and Clearwater County.
The fund follows an 18-month collaboration involving municipal leaders, the Rocky Chamber of Commerce, local businesses and community stakeholders. The process identified challenges facing more than 100 non-profit organizations in the region, including increased competition for limited donations, growing pressure on businesses to contribute and a decline in volunteer capacity.
The fund is designed to address those challenges while creating a lasting legacy of community support. Contributions will go exclusively to projects, programs and organizations operating in Rocky Mountain House and Clearwater County.
Erin Peden, executive director of the foundation, says the initiative reflects a shared commitment to supporting local charities and building long-term community strength.
“It is inspiring to work alongside such a dedicated and forward-thinking group of community members. The people driving this initiative understand that true community strength comes from supporting local charities, and from building infrastructure that will serve future generations long after any one of us is involved. That kind of vision is what philanthropy is all about, and the Community Foundation is honoured to help bring it to life,” says Peden.

Officials say grants from the fund will remain in the community and be directed by local representatives. The foundation will also provide administration, financial oversight and reporting, including issuing charitable tax receipts.
Starting now, philanthropic donors and partners are being invited to contribute to the Heart of the Rockies fund, which aims to support long-term community resilience and social infrastructure in the region.
