With bragging rights on the line, the highly anticipated charity hockey game between Clearwater Regional Fire Rescue Services (CRFRS) and the Rocky Mountain House RCMP will be taking place on March 22 at the Bunch Arena, marking the fourth year of the tradition.
Devin Russell, a firefighter with Station 10 Leslieville at CRFRS, shared that this year’s event will support the Alberta Hunter Education Youth Program, which provides young Albertans with essential outdoor training, including hunter safety courses. “It’s a great cause,” said Russell, “The program helps get kids into the outdoors, teaching them valuable skills like hunting training and other outdoor education.”
Though the event is for a good cause, there’s no denying the friendly rivalry that fuels the competition. “The RCMP have had the upper hand the last three years, but we’re hoping to change that this time around and get a win to rub in their faces,” Russell said, laughing. “We work closely with the RCMP, and the friendly banter never ends.”
The fun doesn’t stop with the game. Fans can expect a special appearance by Jacob Ardown from the popular comedic duo “On the Bench.” Ardown, known for his humorous takes and “expert” hockey commentary, will be adding his unique flair to the event, either on the ice or by riling up the crowd from the stands.
In addition to the game, attendees can look forward to raffle tables and other fundraising opportunities, including a 50/50 draw. “We’ve also been working with local businesses to gather donations, and we’re still looking for more.” Russell explained. Anyone looking to donate can contact charity@gmail.com.
Russell also adds beer gardens will be set up at this years event, thanks to the Rocky Curling Club.
Tickets for the game will be available at the door (cash only), and large groups are encouraged to email rmhfaceoffforcharity@gmail.com for pre-purchase options. With an exciting match-up and plenty of opportunities to support a great cause, the Face-Off for Charity is not to be missed.
Mark your calendars for March 22 at 6 p.m. at the Bunch Arena, and get ready for an action-packed night of hockey, community spirit, and charity!
