Sheldon and Gennifer Mehlhaff were presented with the prestigious King Charles III Coronation Medals by Yellowhead Member of Parliament Gerald Soroka, March 9 at the Clearwater Regional Fire Rescue Services (CRFRS) Station 60 in Rocky Mountain House.
The honour was bestowed in recognition of their exceptional service to the community, specifically their dedication to the fire service and public safety.
In a post on Facebook, Soroka praised Sheldon and Gennifer for their years of commitment and leadership, emphasizing their “exceptional service to their community.”
Sheldon Mehlhaff has been a vital member of the CRFRS for many years, currently serving as Special Operations Chief. His leadership has been crucial in coordinating the day-to-day responses of the department and overseeing specialized rescue teams, including the Joint Water Rescue Team and the Rope Rescue Team, said John Liadis, Fire Chief of CRFRS. He adds, Sheldon’s commitment to public service extends beyond the fire service; as he has also been an active volunteer with Rocky Search and Rescue.
Liadis says Gennifer Mehlhaff has also played a vital role in supporting her community and the fire service. A former firefighter with CRFRS, she has been an integral part of the team, particularly in community relations. As a Clearwater County councilor, Liadis says she continues to be a strong advocate for the fire service, ensuring the safety and well-being of the community are always top priorities.
The King Charles III Coronation Medal, awarded to individuals who have demonstrated outstanding service to their communities, was also recently awarded to Constable Harold Smits.
Smits, a longtime School Liaison Officer with the Wild Rose School Division, is described as a positive role model whose “calming presence” was a significant asset to the WRSD school environment.
